Author's Note: If you where to go through a usual school day and count how many times you hear the word normal it would most likely be a very large number. Everyday we refer to people as being either eccentric, or normal. Normal is a big part of our vocabulary, especially when we are referring to people, but what is a normal person really?
Normal means being about average, but to different people average means different things. Also no one is completely average, all of us have weird or different parts to us. So wouldn't that mean there isn't a normal person anywhere? Not necessarily, it seems to me that we base normal off of how we are. To me it seems like I am perfectly normal, but to others I may seem strange or different, same probably goes with you. In truth it seems like no one can be perfectly normal.
To be perfectly normal you would have to have about average everything, and really no one does. We are all different, and if we were all perfectly normal how boring would that be? We would all be like exact replicas of one person, and life would be so dull then. Just remember weird is good, it adds color into an otherwise normal filled landscape. Would you rather have everyone be the same.
That's a really interesting thought! I like how you are talking everyone being normal to themselves, they just seem different to others. You might want to go over the grammar, some of the sentences were confusing. Also, I noticed that you don't have any SMART goals up, so I would change your goals. Good job though, it was really interesting to read!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a really good job of connecting to the reader, when you wrote this. One of your goals said that you wanted to work on a variety of sentence lengths. This piece seemed to have a pattern, of a longer sentence then a shorter one then longer again, but I think it kept going and flowed fine. Really good ideas and thoughts, and good job.
ReplyDelete"Having a positive attitude may not solve all of your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort" Also I really like this quote on the side of your blog. =)
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good posting idea but I wish you would have wrote maybe another paragraph about how people shouldn't expect to much out of people and that no one can be perfect or in their eyes, normal. Other than that I really liked it and it was a good idea to write about.
ReplyDeleteI like how you always like to try and answer questions that people never really give much thought on. Your ideas on this question are interesting and I think I'm going to have to agree with you considering my brother and sister... :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this short essay type of post, Claire. my dad said once" normal is just a setting on the dryer," and I think that's true. What actually is the standard of normal? How do you measure it?
ReplyDeleteI think this short essay is really strong because of how prominent of an opinion you have and how clear of an idea it is. I think people should just be who they are because no one's normal. I think it would be neat if you wrote an anecdote branching off these ideas from your essay. You have really cool thoughts Claire, don't be afraid to put'em out there.
This was a cool topic to write about, and I think it is something that we can all relate to. You also hit your SMART goal well by adding in various sentence lengths. There are a lot of interesting thoughts in here and like Hannah said you tried to answer some questions that people haven't really thought of. The only thing is that you may want to watch your punctuation marks a little bit, but otherwise this was very interesting. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI thought you picked a very interesting topic to write about that really connects to the reader, because everyone has gone through that thought process. You also touched on your smart goals and I thought your voice was excellent and sounded like it came right from your mouth. Great essay I loved it.
